A 26-year-old student of a university in Cebu City tried to leap from the fourth floor of the school building yesterday morning.
The student appeared high on drugs during the incident, said Supt. Arnel Banzon, deputy director for administration of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Banzon said students in the school campus panicked around 9 a.m. when the student climbed the railings and threatened to jump.
PO1 Dande Espina of the Parian police station said that when they tried to talk the student out of jumping, he said someone was out to get him.
City Fire Department negotiators rushed to the school.
In the course of the negotiation, the student asked for a ball cap from Banzon. Another policeman tried to hand over the ball cap but the student refused it and demanded Banzon personally hand it over to him.
Banzon obliged.
The standoff ended an hour later when the student’s boardmates convinced him to come down. He was taken to the Parian police station.
Banzon said the student will be released once his behavior returns to normal./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
