THE defending champions in the women’s and girl’s divisions emerged victorious in the 2013 Cesafi volleyball tournament last Thursday night at the Aznar Coliseum.
The University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors notched just their first win of the season as they beat the University of Cebu (UC) in straight sets in the women’s class.
USC claimed the crown last year at the expense of the powerhouse Southwestern University (SWU) Lady Cobras but has been struggling as of late. The graduation of USC’s key players has hindered USC’s campaign this season.
Still, a ray of light shone for the Lady Warriors as they beat UC, 25-14, 25-12, 25-12, for their first victory in four games while the Lady Webmasters dropped to their third straight loss.
Meanwhile, the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars gained their second win of the tournament in the girl’s division after beating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in a three-set thriller, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23. USPF, on the other hand, dropped to 1-3. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
