2 dead in separate Davao del Sur killings

DIGOS, Davao del Sur, Philippines—Two persons, one of them an 80-year-old man, were gunned down in separate incidents here on Wednesday, the police said.

Farmer Bernie Bacalso, 32, was shot dead at around 10:30 p.m., as he was washing his feet at a concrete water receptacle near his home in Barangay Upper Bala in the municipality of Magsaysay, Senior Supt. Ronald dela Rosa, provincial police director, said.

About four hours earlier, unidentified gunmen also barged into the house of Gabriel Cotay, 80, in Barangay Mangile in Jose Abad Santos and shot him to death.

Dela Rosa said investigators had not identified the killers, and were still trying to determine the motives for the two murders.
