ZAMBOANGA CITY – Another fire broke out Friday afternoon on Lustre Street in the Zamboanga City district of Santa Catalina.
The fire broke out as sporadic firefight between government troops and members of Moro National Liberation Front reached its fifth day.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
On Thursday, a fire also broke out on Lustre and the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology motorpool in the Muslim quarter of Rio Hondo.
On Wednesday, two fires—one in the afternoon and another at night—broke out in the Santa Barbara district, where a fire burned down several houses the previous day.
As of 3:24 p.m. Friday, the Zamboanga City government posted on its Twitter account that three separate fire incidents are happening as of posting time.
The fire was recorded in Lustre (Buguk) in Sta. Catalina village, while the other was in Sta. Barbara (behind LTO building.)
Fire also was reported in Rio Hondo (in Lupa-Lupa near footbridge) as of 3:48 p.m.
It was not clear if these fires were related to the fires reported to have broken out in those areas on Thursday and Wednesday. No other details were immediately available.
Since Tuesday, at least five fire incidents were recorded in the city amid the standoff between government soldiers and rebels there.
