Baguio City is the summer capital of the country and an established tourist destination and education hub. Faced with an increase in migration and a high influx of tourists in recent years, city officials embarked on a committed move to revitalize the city through a Clean & Green Environment program. Utilizing energy-efficient roadway lighting is one of the core initiatives, leading to the introduction of energy-efficient LEDs at its streets in an extensive collaboration with GE Lighting.
As part of Baguio City’s new lighting program, GE LED park lights have been implemented at the Burnham Park and Chinese Garden to-date. More recently, 20 sets of GE’s LED R150 Pro were installed along an estimated 3-km section of Kennon Road. The LED R150 Pro provide a 37 percent reduction in energy usage compared to GE traditional light sources, while saving the city an estimated $212 thousand per annum in terms of energy and maintenance costs. Kennon Road is one of three major arterial thoroughfares in Baguio City, serving many key facilities, educational institutions and tourists attractions.
