2 shot dead near banana plantation in Compostela Valley
TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Philippines – Unidentified assailants shot dead two people near a banana plantation in Mabini, Compostela Valley on Sunday, police on Monday said.
The victims, both males and with gunshot wounds to the head and body, were found by a roving security guard of Mampising CARP (Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program) Beneficiaries Coop plantation in Tagnanan village at around 5:30 a.m., according to Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, Compostela Valley polic chief.
The victims were clad in blue shirts and short pants.
Prior to the discovery of the bodies, residents near the plantation heard several gunshots and the sound of a speeding vehicle, Cascolan said.
Responding policemen also found a slug from a bullet of an undetermined firearm near the bodies, indicating the victims were shot and left there, he said.
The police official said the bodies were brought to a local funeral parlor for identification as an investigation has started into the killing.
