A 20-year-old man was killed while two other persons were wounded after they were hit by a wayward van in barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City yesterday dawn.
Police identified the fatality as Gregorio Yulod Jr., 20, a resident of barangay Cabancalan.
Police said the driver of the van identified as Felix Quisol, 31, tested positive for alcohol use at the Mandaue City Hospiral where he was brought after the accident.
The Toyota Lite Ace van with plate number GFC-343 is owned by Rene Perez of barangay Apas, Cebu City.
Two other victims, Marichu Andan, 25, and Richard Rosas, 20, were brought by paramedics to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
PO2 Rex Arnoza said the victims were walking at the side of the road at 2:30 a.m. when the van suddenly swerved in their direction and hit them.
The victims were thrown a few meters from the point of impact. Quisol’s unidentified companion was also injured.
The driver was detained at the Mandaue Police Station 4. He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injuries and driving without license.
Another man was killed while two others were wounded in a separate road accident in barangay Lawaan I, Talisay City, southern Cebu past 3 a.m. yesterday.
Dead on the spot was Malcolm Fernandez, 33. John Cesar Navarro, 27, and Martin Moreno, 19, were severely injured in the incident.
Police said the three victims were standing near a parked Multicab which was hit from behind by a Honda Civic sedan driven by Joana Canoy.
Police said the impact rammed the Multicab into a parked truck, with the victims sandwiched in between the two vehicles.
