MANILA, Philippines—A low pressure area (LPA) over Northern Samar is expected Monday to pound southern Luzon with rain although the weather bureau said it had little chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration alerted residents in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) as well as in Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro to the possibility of flash floods and landslides triggered by moderate to heavy rains.
Forecaster Buddy Javier said the LPA, monitored as of 4 p.m. Sunday to be over Catarman, Northern Samar, and embedded in the intertropical convergence zone, was expected to make the entire country cloudy.
He said that while heavy rains were expected in southern Luzon, Metro Manila and the rest of the country would experience light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.—Jeannette I. Andrade
