After a gruelling elimination and quarterfinal round, the stakes get a whole lot higher today as the semifinals in both the juniors and seniors division commence in the 13th Cesafi basketball tournament at what is expected to be a full packed and rowdy Cebu Coliseum.

Action is expected to be fierce as the race to the finals start with the top two finishers in this double round-robin format gaining tickets to the championship round.

After gaining some much-needed rest with byes in the quarterfinal round by virtue of their top ranking, the defending champions Southwestern University Cobras in the Seniors division, and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles in the Juniors, plunge back into action today against some very hungry opponents.

SWU will battle the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars while SHS-AdC, which is riding high on the crest of a 22-game winning streak dating back to last season’s championship run, renew their rivalry against 2010 champions, Cebu Eastern College Dragons.

The other game in the Seniors division pit the University of the Visayas Green Lancers against the University of San Carlos Warriors.

Their younger counterparts will also tangle in Juniors play.

SWU, undefeated so far this season, is hoping for a repeat of their 79-58 win over USJ-R in their lone encounter in the prelims. African import Landry Sanjo is expected to be a huge thorn in the side of the Jaguars as he seeks to reprise his 20-point, 17-rebound, four-assist, three-steal performance in that game, today.
