THE spikers of the University of San Jose-Recoletos atoned for the upset loss that their women counterparts suffered at the hands of Cebu Doctors’ University, by beating Southwestern University in straight sets in the 2013 Cesafi men’s volleyball tournament last Friday night at the University of San Carlos gym.
USJ-R once again rode the supreme talent and skills of Kevin Lawas and Kevin Labay to hack out the 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 win. The victory also gave them the solo lead in the standings with their third win in as many games. SWU on the other hand, tumbled to 2-3.
In the other game, last year’s runners-up, the University of the Visayas grabbed their first win of the season in grand fashion as it came at the expense of the defending champions, University of San Carlos, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.
