Police hunt driver absconding with Kidapawan City councilor’s cash stash

KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines– Police authorities here and in neighboring places have launched a manhunt for the driver of a city councilor who allegedly stole P800,000 in cash from the official’s house on Tuesday.

Superintendent Leo Ajero, Kidapawan City police director, said Councilor Gregory Yarra initially reported to the police that the Toyota Avanza issued to him by the city government had disappeared along with his  driver, Arthur Manggi, on Thursday.

Ajero said Yarra told police he tried hard but failed to contact Manggi through his mobile number as it was turned off.

He said during follow up operation on Thursday, the police recovered Yarra’s vehicle at the Kidapawan City Overland Integrated Terminal around 7 p.m. but the driver was nowhere to the found.

Ajero said Yarra discovered that he lost cash when he checked on a room in his house where he kept his money. He found out that it had been emptied of cash, Ajero said.

Manggi had been driving for Yarra for the past six years.
