The relatives of the woman accused of killing her one-year-old daughter have decided not to file charges against the suspect.
But parricide charges will still be filed against Marvewel Codiñera with the police acting as complainant.
PO3 Arthur Ariate said investigators are still gathering evidence for the filing of a criminal case against Codiñera, who was accused of choking to death her daughter inside their shanty in barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.
Codiñera’s relatives agreed not to press charges since they believed that the woman was not in her right state of mind during the incident.
After her arrest, Marvewel was brought to the psychiatric ward of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
The victim was found with bit marks in the face and chin while her neck had strangulation marks.
Marvewel’s mother, Conchita, confirmed to PO3 Marjorie Paller of the Women’s Desk of the Consolacion Police Station that her daughter was repeatedly admitted at the psychiatric ward a few years ago due to drug addiction.
She added that her daughter was already pregnant when she showed up last year at their home in sitio Bangkerohan.
Conchita said her daughter was released from the psychiatric ward due to their failure to visit her. She said they were not certain who impregnated her daughter.
Conchita said her daughter’s live-in partner is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail for drug charges.
Conchita took care of Marvewel until she gave birth last Sept. 5.
She said there were times that her daughter would run amok.
Conchita recalled an incident where she was choked by her daughter.
