Organizers start preparations for Pedro’s sainthood anniversary

BARELY two months before the first anniversary of San Pedro Calungsod’s canonization on Oct. 21, organizers are now starting to line up activities in preparation for the celebration.

A conference will be held today to discuss the canonization anniversary of the first Cebuano saint and the International Eucharistic Congress that will be held in Cebu on 2016.

The conference, entitled as “Chastity and True Love Legacy” will have Jason and Crystaline Evert, a couple from America, as the speakers.

Joey Gomez, one of the organizers, said “This is for Filipinos to prepare for greater things and we have to celebrate for these.”

He said the church is alive and growing in faith.

High school and college students, parents, teachers and young professionals will participate in the conference.

Around 12,000 participants from Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete and Leyte will also be coming in for the occasion.

Gomez said the topic is intended for the youth since they are our future and the catalysts for progress.

Andrea Gomez, also one of the organizers, said “Most of the youths in the county are influenced by Western culture, but nevertheless they must learn from the life of St. Pedro Calungsod, who lived in chastity and true love.”

She added the conference is not just for the young people but for everybody who wants to join.

Andrea said the Archdiocese of Cebu is also anticipating another international event on 2021 – the 500th anniversary of the arrival of the Catholic Faith in Cebu. /Correspondent Michelle Joy Padayhag
