MANILA, Philippines — Two more prisoners out of the 21 inmates who bolted out of jail in Bukidnon were recaptured while four others surrendered to authorities Thursday, police said.
Police Senior Superintendent Glen dela Torre, Bukidnon police provincial director, identified the detainees who are now back in custody as Albert Espenosa, Roel Llacuna, Rogelio Tayros, Ronald Ga, Jorem Barros, and Carlos Lubos.
Espenosa and Llacuna were rearrested in dragnet operations of Valencia City Police and Bukidnon Provincial Special Operations Group, while the four others surrendered to authorities.
Twenty-one prisoners escaped from the Valencia City Jail located in Barangay (village) Pinatilan around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Two of them, namely Reymart Belmes and Jamal Sambarani, were recaptured on the same day.
During the jailbreak, the inmates took with them six shotguns and five 9mm pistols.
One of the shotguns was recovered from Belmes while one 9mm was recovered from Espenosa, dela Torre said.
Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, Philippine National Police-Public Information Office chief, said the inmates attended the Alternative Learning School when two prisoners asked permission to go to the comfort room.
When the female jail guard wasn’t looking, they attacked her and took from her the key to the armory.
“They overpowered the duty jail guards and escaped from the back portion of the facility by climbing the wall,” Sindac said
As of posting, 13 escapees were still at large.
Valencia City Jail has over 200 prisoners.
