MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the reshuffling of nine officials to “re-energize” and prevent corruption in the agency, a Radyo Inquirer 990AM report said Wednesday.
The reshuffle included five section chiefs from the agency’ main office and four officers-in-charge of alien control from the Visayas and Mindanao field offices.
“We are not yet through with these personnel changes. We are still finalizing the list of the next batch of employees who will be reassigned,” said BI Officer-in-Charge Siegfred Mison in a separate statement.
Mison said the reassignment would help “uplift the professionalism of BI employees who have been doing the same job for many years.”
Affected by the reassignments were Attorney Vicente Uncad, acting head of the BI-Makati extension office; Jollybert Galleon, acting general services section chief; Ma. Rholyn Uy, acting fingerprint section chief; Joseph Abundo, acting property section chief; and Ma. Alexis Gracelia Maceda, acting records section chief.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Lim was assigned as acting alien control officer (ACO) of Glan Saranggani, Yolanda de Lucas as head of BI field office and border crossing station in Bongao Tawi-Tawi, Edwin Bugtong as acting ACO of BI field office in Kalibo/Boracay, and Melita de Asis as acting ACO of Catbalogan, Samar.
In August, the agency reshuffled 19 officials assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and seven other airports.
Mison then said the rotation of personnel would help prevent “fraternization, which has been tagged as a major source of corruption among employees.” – with a report from Ricky Brozas, Radyo Inquirer 990AM
