‘Pride Wednesdays at Handuraw’ highlights stories of LGBT through film showing, testimonial

THE Bisdak Pride Inc. and Handuraw Pizza Store have partnered to come up with a series of Pride events dubbed as “Pride Wednesdays at Handuraw,” a weekly activity that will start today.

The series of activities will highlight stories about the struggles and triumphs, commitment and love of the marginalized lesbian, gays, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

It will also highlight the eighth anniversary of Bisdak Pride in November.

The “Pride Wednesdays at Handuraw” will be held today at 7 p.m. featuring an LGBT short film, a live testimonial from a transgender who underwent sex reassignment, poetry reading and a special comedy show.

FEATURED STORIES

Key personalities were invited to serve as reactors during the sex reassignment discussion, namely, Provincial Board Member Arleigh Sitoy, author of the anti-discrimination ordinance; Maria Antonella Codeniera, chief of Pink Centre of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center; and Leny Ocasiones, Department of Anthropology, Sociology and History chairperson of the University of San Carlos.

Bisdak Pride Inc. is a human rights non-government organization that advances, protects and upholds the rights and responsibilities of persons with different sexual orientation and gender identification in the Visayas and Mindanao.

On the other hand, Handuraw in Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City is owned and managed by Kasidlakan Inc., which aims to establish camaraderie, friendship and sense of community in the local scene of Cebu City.
