The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers grabbed solo first place in the standings as they clobbered the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters, 75-46, in the juniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.

Gone were the days of this matchup being a heated rivalry and yesterday’s game was an example of it as UV dominated the game in the second half en route to their fourth win in a row. UC was kept winless in three games.

The game was neck-to-neck at halftime as UV just led by three, 34-37. However, that all changed in an instant as the Baby Lancers turned on their jets and zoomed away with a sizzling 18-0 blast. In the blink of an eye, thanks to baskets from Nelson Peralta, Matthew Oche, Jino Berdin and Paul Desiderio, the Baby Lancers established a 55-36 lead, which eventually became a 57-42 bulge heading to the final period.

There was no rest for the weary, in this case, the Baby Webmasters, as they got buried deeper with makes from the second stringers of UV. King delos Santos ruled down low, scoring seven in the period, in a massacre that saw UC manage just four points. All in all, UC scored a measly 12 points in the entire second half.

Ron Dennison led the way for UV with 13 points while Berdin, a rock-solid forward, added 12. Matthew Grafilo was the lone double-digit scorer for UC with 11.
