MANILA, Philippines – The local government of Taguig City filed a motion for reconsideration at the Court of Appeals over its earlier declaration that revenue-rich Fort Bonifacio is under the jurisdiction of Makati City.
Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported Sunday that the Taguig City government asked the CA to consider the decision’s effect to “hundreds of thousands of residents and tens and thousands of businesses,” especially since the area’s P5 billion income purportedly supports 28 villages in Taguig.
The appeal also claimed local businessmen were tired of “bureaucratic red tape” and “needless local government intrusion.”
Earlier, Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said businesses transferred to their city because of low tax rates.
The CA’s Sixth Division issued on July 30 its ruling that the highly urbanized Fort Bonifacio was under the jurisdiction of Makati.
The ruling asked Taguig to “return” the disputed area to Makati. The court said Makati City’s claim over Fort Bonifacio was more credible because of the evidences presented. – with a report from Isa Avendaño, Radyo Inquirer 990AM
