Man killed as car slams into concrete barrier in QC
MANILA, Philippines – A man was killed when his luxury vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier of a flyover in Loyola Heights, Quezon City late Thursday night.
Jose Alvarez, 45, of One McKinley Parkway in Taguig City died following the accident at the foot of the Katipunan Avenue flyover.
Senior Insp. Erlito Renegin of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit said the accident occurred on the southbound lane of Katipunan Ave., near the corner of Xavierville Ave., at around 11:45 p.m. Thursday.
Alvarez was driving a new BMW sedan with license plate TQA 973.
Renegin said the victim, who was driving home from work, might have been tired and fell asleep at the wheel when the car smashed into the barrier.
A rescue team of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority pulled Alvarez out of the wreck and rushed him to nearby Quirino Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The police official added there were no indications that Alvarez was driving under the influence of alcohol or that the car, being new, had any mechanical problems.
