THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has rolled out training courses to improve the competency level of the ship industry’s catering services.
The units of competency comprising the ship’s catering services cover practical cookery, food and personal hygiene, food storage, stock control, environmental protection, catering and health and safety.
The skills training is in compliance with the new requirements of Regulation 3.2 of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
Tesda Director General Joel Villanueva signed the circular, which took effect last July 19.
“In line with this, all Technical Vocational Education and Training institutions offering shipboard courses like cooking, catering and culinary arts must align their programs to the new training regulations. They are given one month upon the roll-out of the TRs or until Aug. 19 to do so,” Tesda Director-General Joel Villanueva said.
