WINNER of two straight games, the Barako Bull Energy Colas target a piece of the lead against the Barangay Ginebra Kings in tonight’s main game of the 38th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Barako Bull is looking to tie the Petron Blaze Boosters, who are at solo number one spot with three wins with just one loss.
The Energy Colas are tied for second and third spots with Globalport Batang Pier with similar 2-1 (win-loss) cards.
Import Michael Singletary has been putting up big numbers but Barako Bull’s good start in the tournament is also attributed to the steady plays of pint-sized point guard Eman Monfort, who fired a career-high 22 points in the Energy Colas’ 90-89 win over the Meralco Bolts last Aug. 18.
Monfort only had 12 points in their 103-94 win over the Air21 Express last week but delivered the crucial points that helped the Energy Colas seal their second straight win.
Monfort will be tested again against Ginebra’s veteran playmaker LA Tenorio, who is coming off a career-game.
Tenorio registered his best game in his career when he scored 34 points in the Kings’ 98-85 win over the struggling Bolts last Saturday.
That win allowed the Kings recover from a 95-101 loss to the Boosters.
In the first game, the Bolts try to arrest a two-game slide against the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters. Meralco started its campaign in the season-ending tournament with an 89-83 upset over Petron before it dropped its next two games./ EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
