With big bikes, “wang-wang” and the rush to respond to emergency situations, 47 officers of the Philippine National Police put on their crash helmets and combat boots for a 15-day training course on defensive motorcycle riding starting Thursday.
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) plays host to officers from different divisions, including members of the highway patrol group, intelligence division, mobile patrol group and even station commanders of different police districts on the parade grounds of Camp Tomas Karingal.
The “student riders” include QCPD district deputy director Senior Superintendent Ranier Idio, district intel chief Senior Supt. Nestor Abalos and Station 6 commander Supt. Ronnie Montejo. They will be taught how to exercise control during emergency situations, proper posture, city and highway driving, traffic hazard evasion, accelerator control, calculation, waist flexibility, gas control and how to overcome road obstacles using heavy duty 400-cc motorcycles.
With the crime rate on the rise, quick response on the road is seen as an added skill through the “discipline and joy of motorcycle-riding.”
