Senate probes ‘pork scam’

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate started its investigation into the “pork barrel scam” Thursday.

The inquiry was prompted by the alleged involvement of lawmakers, five of them senators, in the misuse of their Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel.

It is being done less than a day after the alleged mastermind, Janet Lim-Napoles, surrendered to President Benigno Aquino III.

As of posting time, Commission on Audit Chairperson Grace Pulido-Tan is presenting the report she made about two weeks ago regarding the alleged channeling of the pork barrel funds to bogus non-government organizations.
