THE SMALL Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) squad of the University of San Carlos (USC) moved closer towards another title as it advanced to the final round of the Milo-backed BEST Center Twin Tournament after beating the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), 45-17, in the semifinals last Monday at the SHS-AdC basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
USC used its relentless defense to build a 24-13 halftime lead and then held SHS-AdC to a mere four-point total the rest of the second half to register the lopsided win.
Deanmark Rondina led a balanced USC attack with 10 points.
Standing opposite USC in the finals will be the University of the Visayas (UV), which downed Don Bosco, 45-30, in the other semifinals match-up.
In the lone Passerelle division game, USC defeated Southwestern University, 60-20, to tie SHS-AdC at second place with 3-1 (win-loss) records.
UV sits at the top of the leaderboard with a 4-0 slate. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
