A nanny and her boyfriend ended up behind bars on Monday night after they were accused of stealing over P50,000 from her employer in Quezon City.
According to the police, Eva Ignacio, 22, took the money and entrusted it to her boyfriend, Jone de la Cruz, 37. However, the police recovered only P12,000 when they arrested De la Cruz at his house in Pandi, Bulacan.
Case investigator PO1 Louie Sernito said Ignacio would be charged with qualified theft while her boyfriend would face a theft charge. The couple were arrested separately based on a complaint filed by Ignacio’s employer, Edison Pineda, a 25-year-old government worker, who said she had been working for him for over a year.
He told the police that Ignacio left their house at 5 p.m. on Saturday and when she failed to come home despite his repeated attempts to contact her, he reported her disappearance to barangay (village) officials. It was only at 3 a.m. on Monday when he discovered that the P50,000 which he kept in a drawer in his room was missing.
Fortunately for him, his live-in partner, Sarah Jane Fenol, managed to contact Ignacio who agreed to meet her. Ignacio was immediately arrested after she showed up at the meeting and turned over to the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
She later led the police to Dela Cruz’s house in Bulacan.—Julie M. Aurelio
