ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Operations at the Kalibo International Airport have been suspended since Monday morning after a passenger aircraft experienced a mishap that got stuck at the edge of a runway as it was taxiing for take-off.
No one was reported injured after a Tigerair plane bound for Singapore with 49 passengers malfunctioned around 8:30 a.m., according to a report of the Aklan Provincial Police Office.
Percy Malonesio, Kalibo airport manager, said the front and left rear tires of the plane got stuck at the edge of the runway while the aircraft was making a U-turn before takeoff.
Airport personnel had already dislodged one of the tires, according to Malonesio.
All incoming and outgoing flights remained suspended as of 1 p.m.
In a statement, Tigerair Philippines said “there is no cause for alarm as the aircraft will be towed back to the ramp for inspection and further release for flight.”
It said the passengers were billeted at hotel Esperanza for their next available flight out to Singapore.
“Tigerair apologizes for the inconvenience this has caused its passengers,” The statement said.
