Eagles on a roll
THE ATENEO Blue Eagles won their fourth game in a row but had to stave off a comeback rally by the Adamson Soaring Falcons before prevailing, 79-66, in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
In the second game, the Far Eastern University Tamaraws snapped their two-game losing streak with a pulsating 98-94 double-overtime win over the University of the East Red Warriors.
The Blue Eagles actually held a huge 27-point lead, 32-59, but the Falcons scored 19 straight, behind the inside forays of import Ingrid Sewa and Rodney Brondial, to cut the deficit to just eight, 51-59, with still over five minutes remaining in the game.
Kiefer Ravena scored eight of the next 12 points while Ryan Buanafe added a three-pointer that put the game away, 75-61.
Ravena and Buenafe had 18 each to lead Ateneo. Adamson was paced by the 17 of Sewa.
The win by FEU pegged them at 8-2 (win-loss) also stopped UE’s four-game winning streak. The Red Warriors are now at 5-4. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
