A DAY after the family of slain businessman Antonio Ouano announced the P1-million reward money, a 32-year-old security guard appeared in the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) to claim that he knew the suspects behind the murder.
Chief Insp. Rex Lomente, chief of the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB) of the Mandaue city police, said the guard’s name is withheld pending their investigation into his claims.
Lomente said the security guard, a native of Consolacion town, will be considered an informant since his statements aren’t sufficient to stand as evidence in court.
The businessman’s son Antonio “Tonypet” Ouano Jr. announced the P1-million reward money to reporters last Monday.
Lomente said the guard claimed that he chanced on two men talking about the murder in a drinking session in barangay Basak, Mandaue City.
He said the two men talked about the ambush that claimed Ouano’s life near the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
In reporting his claim, the guard said he has no intention of claiming the reward money because he was bothered by his conscience.
Earlier Antonio Jr. admitted there were factions among his father’s family but said this is normal.
“We don’t get involved with their fights,” he told reporters in a press conference last Monday.
Still, Antono Jr. said the family isn’t discounting the possibility that the suspect or mastermind is within their circle of relatives. With Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
