THE UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons got off to a hot start only to sputter in the endgame and lose, 63-85, to the La Salle Green Archers in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It was the same old story that happened on just another day for the beleaguered Maroons, who shot 47 percent from the field in the first half to snatch a 42-35 lead at the turn.

But the Archers took over with a sizzling 14-0 run that spanned the third and fourth periods and never looked back to spoil the coaching debut of UP’s new tactician, Rey Madrid.
