FOR 17 straight years, the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters have been champions in the annual Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals. And in those glorious years, the Webmasters have proven their charitable side.
And this year is no exception.
Responding to calls for help for the oil spill victims in Cordova town, the Webmasters pledged to donate whatever cash prize they will win in the Milo regional Finals which will conclude this Sunday.
UC athletic director Bernard Ricablanca announced that the donation will go to the volunteers of the ongoing clean-up drive in the coastal town of Cordova who are battling a massive oil spill caused by the collision of two ships off Lawis Ledge in Talisay City, Cebu.
The champion school in the annual Milo regional meet will receive P40,000 according to Ricablanca while P20,000 and P10,000 will go to the two runner-up schools.
In 2009, the Webmasters also donated the P40,000 cash prize they won to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy in Luzon through ABS-CBN.
“We at UC always tell our athletes that we compete for the glory of sports that’s why our cash prizes are donated to our charitable causes,” Ricablanca said.
According to Ricablanca, the planned donation to Cordova town is just one of several outreach programs they have in UC. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
