So far, the reigning champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras have run unchecked this season.

Today, they are expected to encounter a roadblock as they battle the rejuvenated University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Cobras-Jaguars matchup will be the main offing of today’s quadruple-header that will also feature three games in the juniors division.

The defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles aim to remain undefeated when they tangle with the second-running Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons prior to tonight’s seniors game. Kicking off the playdate will be a juniors game between the University of San Carlos (USC) and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and an encounter between University of Cebu (UC) and University of the Visayas (UV).

Meanwhile, the Cobras have been on a roll in their first four games, winning all with the last one being an easy 81-68 victory over the UC Webmasters earlier this week.

The win over UC was made possible through the efforts of import Landry Sanjo, who scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. The backcourt combination of Monbert Arong and Mark Jayven Tallo also played big during that game.

Stiff resistance is expected to be put up by the Jaguars, who have turned their fortunes around after a disastrous summer that saw them win just one game in the preseason Partner’s Cup.

They currently tote a 2-1 (win-loss) record after winning over UC, 70-65, in their previous outing. Veteran James Regalado and neophyte Rendell Senining carried the team to that come-from-behind win by combining for 33 points.
