‘Maring’ leaves P97M in damage to crops, infrastructure– NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – Luzon suffered at least P97.3 million worth of damage to agriculture and infrastructure from torrential rainfall and flooding caused by the storm-enhanced southwest monsoon, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) in its report on Friday.

NDRRMC said damage to infrastructure amounted to P74.8 million while damage to agriculture were at P22.5 million for Regions I, IV-A, IV-B and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

As of Friday, 20 people were reported killed – one each from the National Capital Region and CAR, seven from Region III and 11 from Region IV-A.

At least 41 were injured and four are still missing.

Tropical storm “Maring” and the southwest monsoon resulted in heavy rainfall and widespread flooding in 663 areas under 92 municipalities and cities for less than a week.

According to the NDRRMC, five provinces, eight cities and nine municipalities were declared under a state of calamity.

At least 1.9 million people were affected, with 200,060 individuals forced to stay in 675 evacuation centers and 400,762 seeking shelter with friends or relatives.

Meanwhile, P28.25 million worth of relief assistance, medicines and non-food items were also distributed to the affected areas. Of the amount, P12.2 million were from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, P12.97 million from local government units, P2.6 million from the Department of Health and P463,743 from non-government organizations.

Region I:

–         Cities: Candon City in Ilocos Sur and Dagupan City in Pangasinan

–         Municipalities: Narvacan, Gregorio del Pilar and Sta. Maria in Ilocos Sur, and Sta. Barbara and Calasiao in Pangasinan

Region III: Bataan and Pampanga

–         Cities: Tarlac City

–         Municipalities: Obando and Hagonoy in Bulacan

Region IV-A: Cavite, Laguna and Rizal

Region IV-B:

–         Municipalities: Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro

–         Villages: Brgy. Victoria and Brgy. Lagnas in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro
