USC routs SHS-AdC
THE SMALL BASKETEERS of the Philippines (SBP) squad of the University of San Carlos (USC) flaunted its championship pedigree as it routed the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), 46-21, in the elimination round of the Cebu leg of the Milo-backed Best Twin Tournament last Wednesday at the SHS-AdC basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
ZJ Enriquez led USC with 16 points as the team logged its fifth win in a row.
In other SBP division games, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) downed the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 64-23, while the University of the Visayas (UV) defeated Don Bosco, 40-30.
In the Passerelle division, defending champion UV got past USC, 49-38, to grab the solo lead in the standings.
UV yielded the first quarter to USC at 12-9, then held USC at bay in the second quarter, limiting the latter to only a field goal for a 17-14 halftime lead.
Orlan Wamar took over in the third quarter, scoring eight points to give UV a 29-23 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Article continues after this advertisementUV controlled the tempo of the game with a triple each from James Eduard Zenarosa and Mike Anthony Bayaton for a 37-26 lead.
In the other Passerelle division game, SHS-AdC outscored CEC, 59-43. UV leads the Passerelle division at 3-0 (win-loss) trailed by SHS-AdC (3-1), USC (2-1) CEC (2-2), Don Bosco (1-2), SWU (0-2) and USJR (0-4)./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
