Bus plunges into ravine near Malaysian resort

KUALA LUMPUR — A bus carrying around 30 passengers has plunged into a deep ravine near a Malaysian highland resort area. There was no immediate word on casualties.

A member of the Fire and Rescue Department in the central Genting Highlands district said rescuers were trying to reach the bus, which fell more than 30 meters (100 feet) into the ravine on Wednesday. He said it was not yet known whether there were any casualties. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make public statements.

Bentong town police chief Mohamad Mansor Nor confirmed the accident, but said he was still heading to the site and had no details about who the passengers were.
