BFAR warns vs seafood from Cordova

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is advising the public not to eat seafoods harvested from Cordova town in Mactan Island.

The BFAR said that fishes, sea shells and other kinds of seafoods harvested in barangays Alegria, Bangbang, Buagsong, Catarman, Cogon, Dapitan, Day-as, Gabi, Gilutongan, Ibabao, Pilipog, Poblacion, and San Miguel may be contaminated with hazardous chemicals after ingesting petroleum.

BFAR 7 Regional Director Andres Bojos said that seafoods from those areas are not safe for food consumption.

Cordova which is famous for its seafood “Bakasi” and celebrates “Bakasi Festival” every August.

In Lapu-Lapu City, the BFAR has yet to find seafoods contaminated with oil and hazardous chemicals. /Correspondent Michelle Joy L. Padayhag
