National boxer among the missing

HE had a potential to become a professional boxer.

Quinan Alvarez, 17, a member of the Philippine Boxing Team is still missing four days after the MV St. Thomas Aquinas sank in Lawis Ledge, off the coast of Talisay City.

His parents Fernando and Pacquita Alvarez went to Talisay Fish Port yesterday hoping that their son’s body was one of those being retrieved by the divers.

Fernando, 53, let out his emotions as he showed reporters photos of his missing son.

“I already accepted what happened to my son, but when I saw on television that he denied everything, I could not stop myself but to hate him,” Fernando said, referring to reports of denial from the captain of Sulpicio Express Siete which hit the passenger vessel MV St. Thomas Aquinas.

Quinan Alvarez boarded the ship in Surigao City where he had been training with the national team for a vacation in his home in Manila.
