Clearing operations in Calero fire site today

RESIDENTS of barangay Sawang Calero were advised to prepare for today’s clearing operation in the wake of last Saturday’s fire that razed 20 houses and displaced 250 residents in nearby Magsaysay Extension.

Raquel Arce, chief of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) team, said there is no need for re-blocking of the area. “The roads are actually there. We just need to restore it and clear the sidewalks,” Arce said.

The Probe team will focus on clearing the sidewalks from obstruction and confiscate Automatic Tubig Machines (ATM) in sidewalks.

Arce said they also ordered the barangay officials to inform the residents of the plans.

Sawang Calero barangay chairman Benjamin Zabate said he instructed barangay tanods to inform the residents.

So far, he has not received complaints regarding the clearing.

“For me, this is good so that the roads will not be very narrow. What’s important is for the betterment of the majority,” Zabate said.

Arce said they will instruct barangay officials to maintain the width of the road once they are finished clearing them./ Correspondent Jose Santino S. Bunachita
