Cebuano basketball star June Mar Fajardo, is set to be feted by the Cebu Provincial Board along with the rest of the Philippine national basketball squad, dubbed as the Gilas Pilipinas, for their recent silver-medal finish in the 27th FIBA Asia Men’s Championship which was held in Manila.

This, according to a resolution that was filed by Provincial Board member and sports czar Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba during the 24th regular session that was held last August 12 at the Legislative Building of the Capitol Compound.

Resolution no. 1003-2013 was authored by Alcoseba himself, who is also the champion head coach of the Southwestern University Cobras. The resolution is one for “commending the Gilas team of the Philippines for winning the silver medal of the recent basketball tournament of FIBA, specifically to Cebuano player, June Mar Fajardo of Pinamungahan, Cebu, who is worth emulating for all aspiring basketball players in the country.”

Ironically, it was Fajardo that denied Alcoseba his first title in the Cesafi after the University of Cebu Webmasters beat the Cobras during the 2011 championship series of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (Cesafi).

The resolution continued to heap praise upon the brave Gilas squad which earned the country a berth in the FIBA World Cup in Spain next year after they beat rivals, South Korea, in the semifinals. The Gilas though, fell to Iran in the championship game.
