MANILA, Philippines – Weather in Metro Manila and nearby areas is expected to improve by Tuesday evening, as tropical storm Maring (international name Trami) moved northward.

“We are hopeful that weather will improve late this afternoon or early evening especially for Metro Manila and surrounding areas,” Department of Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo said at a press briefing held at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council held at Camp Aguinaldo.

He added that Bataan, Zambales and Central Luzon would be affected as the storm moves towards Pangasinan and La Union until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility by Thursday or Friday.

Vicente Malano of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in the same press briefing that by Friday, the weather is expected to improve throughout the whole country.

As of midday Tuesday, Maring accelerated north and was moving at 19 kilometers per hour. It was last spotted 595 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

Although no storm signals were raised, the storm would enhance the southwest monsoon and would bring heavy to torrential rains within its 500 km diameter.
