MANILA, Philippines – Water level in Marikina River reached alert level three Tuesday afternoon as waters continued to rise due to the rains spawned by the storm-enhanced southwest monsoon.
Marikina authorities urged the residents near the swelling river to evacuate due to the raised alert level.
As of 12:50 p.m., the water level was recorded at 17 meters, the Marikina public information office said.
As of 12:22 p.m., there are already 2,630 persons evacuated at Nangka Elementary School.
Alarm level one means at least 15 meters above sea level. In alarm level two, there is at least 16 meters above sea level which calls for “preparedness;” Alarm level three is 17 meters above sea level and calls for “evacuation;” while critical level or at least 18 meters above sea level calls for “forced evacuation.” With a report from Julliane de Jesus
