3 kids drown in Central Luzon floods

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Philippine–A young boy and two babies drowned in floods spawned by tropical storm “Maring” in Central Luzon on Monday, a report from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) showed.

Jeric Sorgello, 3, was swept by strong currents after he fell into the river in Alas-asin in Mariveles, Bataan at around 3 p.m. on Monday. His body was retrieved two hours later.

Jian Charles Centeno, 11 months, drowned in flood in their house at 74-B Jacinto St. in Barangay Canalate in the City of Malolos, Bulacan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. It was not known if an adult was around during the accident.

Justin Viray, who was 15 months old, drowned in Barangay Sta. Lucia Paguiba in Minalin, Pampanga at 2:30 p.m. Monday. The RDRRMC said the mother placed the baby on a crib when she left the house. Shortly after, she returned and saw the baby floating in a creek near their house.

These deaths raised to four the fatalities in the region during “Maring.” The first victim was Renato Lacsamana, 64. He drowned early Monday after he fell into a river while checking the water level along Sitio Lapu-lapu in Sta. Cruz, Lubao, Pampanga.
