Man roused from sleep stabs nephew

/ 04:06 AM August 20, 2013

A 20-year-old man had to be rushed to the hospital after he was reportedly stabbed by his uncle who flew into a rage when he was awakened by the victim knocking on the door of his house in Pasig City on Monday.

Chief Insp. Oscar Boyles, the city’s investigation chief, identified the victim as Dexter de Vera. According to Boyles, the victim was rushed to Pasig City General Hospital after he sustained two stab wounds in the chest. The victim’s relatives, Marilou Pagdilao and Romel de Vera, who were with Dexter at the time of the incident, said the victim had knocked loudly on the door of the house of the suspect, his uncle Tirso de Vera, on Velasco Avenue in Barangay (village) Manggahan around 3 a.m.

The knock reportedly awakened Tirso, who subsequently went out of the house and thrust a bladed weapon into the victim’s chest. Although Boyles did not say whether Dexter made a scene because he was drunk, Pagdilao and Romel told authorities that they and the victim had been drinking earlier.

According to Pagdilao and Romel, Tirso was shocked when he recognized the victim. Pagdilao has told authorities that the victim’s parents, who were in Isabela province at the time of the incident, had refused to file criminal charges against the suspect.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
