2,000 evacuated from flood-prone areas in Taguig

MANILA, Philippines — About 2,000 have been evacuated from flooded areas in Taguig City, as of Monday afternoon, the largest number of people moved to safer ground in southern Metro Manila, local officials reported.

Exactly 399 families, or 2,050 people, were brought to 12 temporary shelters or evacuation centers in nine barangays (villages).

In Ususan, 168 families were evacuated to the Cayetano high school, while seven were evacuated to the barangay elementary school; in Wawa, 21 families were evacuated to RP Cruz Elementary School; in Fort Bonifacio, 13 families were evacuated to the Sitio 3 Health Center; and 19 families at the Sitio Una Court.

Four families were evacuated to the CP Teresa school in Bagumbayan; 48 at the Barangay Hagonoy Covered Court; three families at the Maharlika Village Trade Center; seven families at the Old Lower Bicutan barangay hall; six families at the DMAC covered court in New Lower Bicutan; 40 families at the R. Papa High School in Barangay Tuktukan; two families in the Tenement Elementary School in Barangay Western Bicutan; 60 families at the Diosdado High School in Barangay Katuparan.

Mayor Lani Cayetano began her rounds to oversee the distribution of meals in the evacuation centers in the afternoon, the city public information office said, in an advisory.
