Dimakiling draws anew, stays in 2nd

FILIPINO International Master Oliver Dimakiling settled for his second straight draw yesterday this time against Chinese GM Li Shilong to create a three-way tie for second place after six rounds of the 8th Dato’ Arthur Tan Malaysia Open Chess 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Davao City-native Dimakiling tallied 5.0 points on four wins and two draws, the same output of GM Wang Rui and IM Lu Shanglei of China.

Li, who grabbed the solo lead over the weekend after beating erstwhile co-leader IM Oliver Barbosa of the Philippines, remains on top with 5.5 points.

Wang on the other hand, inflicted the second straight loss of Barbosa while Lu defeated IM Nguyen Duc Hoa of Vietnam.

Another Filipino entry GM Roland Salvador split the point with Wan Yunguo of China to score 4.5 points and tied for 5th to 11th places with Wan, GM Wen Yang, IMs Gao Rui and Yu Lie of China and GM Dao Thien Hai and GM Cao Sang of Vietnam.

Paris-based GM Joseph Sanchez humbled WIM Nguyen Thi Mah Hung of Vietnam to improve to 4.0 points while IMs Richard Bitoon and Rolando Nolte drew their respective matches to also post 4.0 points.

Bitoon drew with IM Sharma Dinesk K of India while Nolte halved the point with Wang Joe of China.

Meanwhile, GM Darwin Laylo bowed to IM James Morris of Australia, Cris Ian Udani routed Michel Adeimi of Libya, NM Edgar Reggie Olay drew with WCM Nur Nabila  Azman Hisham of Malaysia, Nelson Mariano III crushed Cheah Cheok Fung of Malaysia and IM Richilieu Salcedo whipped Qui Mengjie of China.
