‘Superbody’ eyed to manage country’s water supply

Saying that water should be managed properly to prevent any shortages, President Benigno Aquino III announced on Tuesday that the Palace will create a “superbody” that will be in charge of managing the country’s water supply.

The President said his economic managers made the proposal during their meeting the other day when they discussed the fact that there were many government agencies handling the water supply in the country.

He named the agencies handling the water system in the country such as the Local Water Utilities Administration, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, National Irrigation Administration Authority (under the Department of Agriculture) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which is in charge of the country’s watersheds.

Mr. Aquino was speaking to reporters after he welcomed the arrival as well as toured the biggest warship acquired by the Philippine Navy at Pier 13 in South Harbor in Manila.

The President underscored the importance of water as a resource and warned that “if not managed properly, there can be shortages.”

The superbody will also “come up with a water plan.”
