‘Maring’ stationary, will exit PH Thursday

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical storm ”Maring” kept its strength as it remained almost stationary for the past six hours, the state weather bureau said on Monday.

With its slow movement, the storm was seen to exit the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday morning or 530 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

“Maring” was last spotted 575 kilometers east of Itbayat, and was forecast to move east northeast at 7 kph.

It will bring heavy to intense rains (10-25 mm per hour) within its 300 km diameter and will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon.

Moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms were seen over Luzon particularly over the western section, Pagasa said.

Fishermen specially those using small seacraft were advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon due to the possible big waves generated by the enhanced southwest monsoon.
