MANILA, Philippines—The red rainfall alert was extended anew in Metro Manila and nearby provinces by the state weather bureau shortly after 3 a.m. Monday following incessant heavy to torrential rains spawned by the southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by tropical storm Maring (international name: Trami).
“Heavy to torrential rains affecting Metro Manila, Bataan, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Northern Quezon and most likely to continue for the next three hours,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its 3:15 a.m. bulletin.
Moderate to heavy rains, meanwhile, were still affecting Nueva Ecija and the rest of Quezon.
Pagasa said severe flooding was expected.
The state weather bureau first issued a red rainfall alert at 9 p.m. Sunday, then re-issued it at 12:10 a.m. Monday.
