MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau recommended suspension of classes in Metro Manila and several Luzon provinces as tropical storm “Maring” (international name Trami) continued to enhance the southwest monsoon.
Incessant heavy rains were experienced in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and Metro Manila and most likely to prevail until Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
“With this development, suspension of classes tomorrow (August 19) in preschool and elementary levels in these areas is recommended. Suspension of classes in secondary and tertiary levels is left to the discretion of local chief executives or school administrators,” it also said.
Several schools in Metro Manila and some provinces in Luzon already declared suspension of Monday classes.
