MANILA, Philippines — Tropical depression “Maring” maintained its strength as it continued to move eastward, the state weather bureau said midday Sunday.
Maring kept its maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and movement of east northeast at 9 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
As of 10 a.m., it was spotted 540 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes.
Although no storm signals were raised, Maring will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon affecting the whole country. Moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms were seen over the western section of Luzon.
Fishermen specially those using small seacraft were also advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, and over the seaboard of Cavite, Mindoro Occidental, and over the western coast of Batangas due to the possible big waves generated by the enhance southwest monsoon.
