FORMER WBO superbantamweight world champion Ana ‘The Hurricane’ Julaton (12W-3L-1D, 2 KOs) returns to the ring today after a year of absence, when she fights Celina Salazar (4W-1L-2D, 1 KO) of San Antonio, Texas at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun, Mexico.
During yesterday’s official weigh-in, Julaton weighed 123.5 lbs while her opponent Celina Salazar stepped in at 122.6 lbs. The 10-round non-title bout will be held this morning (Philippine Time).
The 33-year-old Julaton’s last fight was a first round TKO win over Abigail Ramos in Yucatan, Mexico last Aug. 3, 2012. Salazar is nine years younger but with less experience.
In an article written by Rich Mazon on philboxing.com, Salazar was quoted as saying that “I’m going in there to win. That’s all I care about.”
Salazar’s trainer Arturo Ramos added that, “Obviously there’s a game plan we’ve been working on and things we feel can help her during the fight but the majority of the things she’s taking into the fight she has been doing for a very long time.”
On her facebook page, Julaton declared that she is ready and feeling great for this bout which is in the undercard of the championship match between WBC superfeatherweight champion Takashi Miura of Japan and Sergio Thompson of Mexico.
Both Miura and Thompson weighed in at the division limit of 130 lbs.
